KITTEN/CAT HEALTH GUARANTEE
All of our kittens are vaccinated age appropriate and are spayed or neutered before they leave us. We take every precaution to assure you, the buyer, of a healthy animal. To the best of our knowledge, all kittens and cats are free of and have not been exposed to any communicable diseases. These are living creatures and illness and accidents can and do occur. MaineCoonections kittens are protected by a 7-day health guarantee, 30 days of pet insurance and a 2- year congenital defect guarantee.
7- Day Health Guarantee: All kittens are covered by a 7-day health guarantee. If the Buyer wishes to have the kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian during this time and the veterinarian finds any life-threatening or untreatable illness in the kitten, the kitten can be retuned immediately to the Breeder and a replacement kitten will be provided when available. The Breeder is at no time, responsible or liable for any costs associated with the medical care or transport if returned.
If the kitten should die from a problem present prior to the sale, the breeder shall replace the kitten with one of equal quality when available. No cash refunds will be given.
30 Days of Pet Insurance: We provide an opportunity for one month of free pet medical insurance via Trupanion Insurance at no charge to the Buyer. This covers medical expenses for illness and accidents for your MaineCoonections kitten. This requires the buyer to activate the insurance in the 24 hours prior to acceptance of the kitten,and if this is completed, the kitten is protected from the minute the kitten is picked up. The Buyer does have 24 additional hours to active Trupanion, and in that case the coverage would begin upon activation, not from the moment of pickup. Terms and conditions of Trupanion are not covered under this contact and the Buyer will need to contact Trupanion for detail regarding coverage, deductibles, etc. The Breeder is not part of the relationship between the Buyer and Trupanion, the Breeder does not pay any fees associated with this insurance. At the end of the free 30-day period, the Buyer will need to enroll and pay for Trupanion coverage to continue. NY residents must enroll at the time of free activation
Two Year Health Guarantee: MaineCoonections does DNA testing on all our adult breeding cats by Optimal Selection to test specifically for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), and PKD (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency), all genetic diseases known to afflict Maine Coons. For a period up to 24 months of life from the date of birth, the breeder guarantees the kitten to be free from life threatening congenital defects.
a. Should the kitten die during that time as a direct result of a congenital defect, a necropsy must be performed by a licensed veterinarian and a certificate provided as proof of cause of death, along with all vet records. The Breeder must be notified within 24 hours of the death. If the kitten is proven to have died or is diagnosed with a congenital, life-threatening illness that is untreatable, the Breeder will replace the kitten with one of equal quality when available.
b. In the event that the kitten is diagnosed and not deceased, the kitten must be returned to the Breeder at the Buyer’s expense within 5 days of the diagnosis and proof of illness covered. The Breeder may extend the alternative offer of a 50% refund of the purchase price instead of a replacement kitten at the discretion of the Breeder.
c. Exclusions to the Health Guarantee: All warranties exclude any illness not directly related to a congenital disease, including accidents, illnesses due to improper care or neglect, minor or easily treatable conditions, any viral, bacterial or protozoal infections that are easily transmissible in locations such as at a groomer or vet’s office. The warranty excludes FIV, FeLV and FIP. MaineCoonections has negative FIV/FeLV test on every adult cat in our cattery. FIP is not known to be hereditary and most cats harbor the coronavirus responsible that can mutate into FIP in certain cats under stressful situations. This is not an illness that can be predicted or bread out; therefore, it is not covered in in our health guarantee.
d. At no time will any expenses incurred (including vet bills or diagnostic fees while in the Buyer’s possession), regardless of warranty status, be the responsibility of the Breeder. The breeder shall never be responsible for providing any value beyond a replacement kitten.
No Transference of Warranty: This warranty is between the original Buyer and the Breeder only
Appearance of Kitten: I understand that I am purchasing a KITTEN, and they will change and evolve as they grow and reach adulthood. I understand that there is simply no way a breeder can ever guarantee the future, such as kitty’s adult size, weight or future shifts in coat color.
Food and Care: Health records and recommendations will be provided at time of pick up. Please take them with you to your vet. It is recommended that all kittens be kept separate from all other cats or pets for two weeks to settle in without stress. This kitten/cat is sold as a pampered inside pet only. Allowing the kitten/cat to go outside in an unsecured manner, declawing the kitten/cat or failure to vaccinate voids all health guarantees. This kitten is being fed a high-quality cat food and it is recommended to continue this diet for the life of the cat. A complete list of feeding instructions will be provided prior to pick-up/delivery.
Right of First Refusal: If, for any reason, the purchaser cannot maintain ownership, the breeder retains “right of first refusal” to re-obtain ownership of the cat/kitten. The cat shall never be surrendered to a shelter or rescue.
Jurisdiction for Legal Disputes: In the event that a dispute cannot be resolved between the Buyer and the Breeder, legal jurisdiction shall be in the State of North Dakota in Burleigh County and governing law shall be the State of North Dakota.
